Unable to connect to kvm host with virt-manager

Trying to connect to remote kvm host using virt-manager generated the following error

authentication unavailable: no polkit agent available to authenticate action 'org.libvirt.unix.manage'

This was fixed by adding the non root user to the libvirt group on the kvm host machine
